Default another intake question

Have the GM fixes been known to go bad?? My engine is consuming coolant and there is milky white stuff in the oil. It looks like it is a little wet around the intake (just a little black gooey stuff, almost like a seep.) I've got the little sticker saying it was fixed, but I'm thinking it done gone broke again :(

I'm not sure if the GM intakes have been corrected during earlier years. This time around it could be your lower gaskets and not necessarily the upper intake manifold.

However, drain that oil ASAP!! That coolant is eating at your bearings.

they fixed my mom'* 2001 SE, even though our oil never got coolent in it. Thats why you stick to S1 engines!

There was a lot of coolant in the oil. I pulled the filter off and it weighted about 5 pounds from all the sludge in it. I bet that'* what caused my valve tick !

changes were never made to the upper, only the stovepipe material. if they didn't replace the lower/stovepipe, it'* going to happen again.

and again.

and again.

unless you do a dorman kit or do an l26 mani.

Ken-co http://www.ken-co.com/manifold/ makes a "repair" kit for the manifold. I don't know if it would work or not but I liked the idea so much that when I did my upper I made a new stove pipe and sleeve like the one pictured in the above link. I think it will prevent burn through (although mine hadn't in 100K) by keeping an air space (mine had .050) between the hot stove pipe and the manifold which will now be protected by a sleeve. Although the kit is rather expensive ($80) I think it is a good preventative idea. Obviously you would not use the epoxy.

Do I have to drain the coolant before I remove the intake?
