Default Motor Oil?

What type of motor oil should I use in my '92 SSEi that has just over 191,000kms on it? I have heard different opinions, but more or less just confusing?? Synthetic, Semi-Synthetic or Regular - but 'higher mileage' or 'max life' kind of stuff? Also, 'can' you switch back from synthetic to regular if you find you don't like it, or vice versa?

Thanks for the link to the article, definitely alot of good info. Unfortunately, I am still not clear on whether it'* better to use synthetic, semi, or non-syn motor oil? :? Nobody in the article really said one way or another, except for one - they mainly talked about oil change intervals. Not trying to be ignorant, just want to start off doing things right!

If you change your oil like you should then and type (I prefer valvoline) would do!..

Synthetics allow you to go longer between oil changes and if I would go to synthtic then it would be synthetic all the way not blends or semi..just my .02

I'm using valvoline durablend now, seems to be good stuff.

Joey, I would stick to whatever it is that got you this far. I would recommend that you stick with what the owners manual says to use and that is probably 10W-30 Motor Oil. I'm sure that the "fancy" motor oils out there do have many advantages and that you could try the Synthetics and go back to Regular Dino at any time without a problem. The most important thing is to change the oil at regular intervals. And that varies from each individual here at the BC.

If you've been using just normal oil stick with that or else a synthetic blend. Stay away from a full synthetic, I've heard they can cause problems with seals on higher mileage cars that have never used synthetics before.

Sorry if we're getting off topic here, but if you treat a car right, I would consider anything less than 50,000 miles brand new. When you reach 75,000 I'd say it'* just broken in. 100,000 miles is about mid-life. And maybe after 150,000 miles you could possibly say that this is high mileage. Although I counted over 17 club members with over 140,000 miles on their cars so they might feel insulted if I said that they had high mileage cars.

I've heard the same thing about fullsyn being bad for seals as well. Something about the oil running thinner than normal oil or something like that. I won't say I understand what that'* all about but I've used a blend in my cars to be on the safe side and it'* worked out well.
