Anyone ever have a failing fuel pump before?
 

If you've ever had to replace your fuel pump from the old one dieing, what was it like?
Did you run lean and experience KR for a while before it finally went?
Did it just die without any warning?

My father had to replace his on his 1994 oldsmobile 88. The old pump would drowned out the motor noise . Anyway after yuo get it done you may notie your car is running diffrently because you'll have a fresh pump thus satisfing the fuel requirments for the system. If you have any KR due to fule shortage this should go away. Just be careful when dropping and good luck.

I had to replace mine, actually I had to replace the sending unit and tank too. I didn't notice a huge difference really, except for the fact that it seemed to have a little loss in power. For the most part it died without notice, while I was here at college. I was about to leave for my campus from the main campus and my car died after running for 5 minutes. I had other symptoms too but those were most likely caused by the sending unit. Once I replaced this stuff I did notice a minor increase in gas mileage btw.

I had a pump replaced on my car, but now am having some rough running/idle/misfiring issues... I'm wondering if it's fuel related. What problems are you having specifically?

I'm starting to worry about this in the SSEi not that I'm starting to mod........ It is quite loud esp. with all the interior out. 260K later the Trans Sport has it's original still in it. :roll:

I've got some KR that's been around ever since I rebuilt the top half of my engine. The KR could be from a few things including the fact that my head gaskets are leaking oil, my small downpipe, exhaust leak (false kr), etc.
My idle is a little high (+250 rpm) for what it’s set at and is rough, and i've got KR when I accelerate.
I've ruled out a vacuum leak around the TB and between the upper intake manifold/HVII/lower intake manifold, and I also have new plugs/wires, and newer coil packs. My fuel trims are near perfect too.
I plan on replacing the head gaskets along with some other things within the next couple months (need $) but I was trying to make sure I rule everything else out first.
I'm thinking maybe the fuel pump because it has 122k on it, I go lean whenever I hit the gas, and maybe it’s messing with my idle.
But then again it could just be my head gaskets.

There is no single answer. I have seen fuel pumps die slow lingering deaths to dying in their sleep. Sometimes they will run fine til you go WOT. Other times they are hard starting and sometime they will run fine, shut the car off and it will not start (died in it's sleep). Still other times they will just fail while driving, restart ok and run for several days without a problem.

I am not sure if a weak pump can cause KR. Some of the veterans..help me out here. KR is usually caused by lower octane fuel and also once you start adding performance mods.

Not that mods are bad, but you tend to restrict yourself to 93 octane, and why wouldn't you run performance fuel if you are looking for more performance from your car.

Did a quick test w/a buddy. Cfoote's 96 SLE NA had KR when WOT on 87 octane, my 95 SSEi had none at WOT but I was running 93 octane. Supercharger didn't matter. It was all about the octane. I guarantee if I was on 87 octane my KR would have been worse than his at WOT.

Mine's humming like a hive of bees (so noticeable my car-clueless honey asked me what "that noise" was) but it seems to be running OK and starting as normal.

I'm about to replace it anyway, though, because at 109K it's starting to creep me out.
