Anyone ever had a plastic tube replaced on their radiator??

Hey guys,

I just replaced my radiator today and have a perfectly good radiator, minus a crack in the plastic tube, because GM was stupid in their placement of the A/C condensor bracket. So after altering this bracket and installing the new radiator, i would like to know about replacement of the plastic tank.

Thank you,
Sellincars

You need to call around to local radiator shops and find one that changes tanks. Many places simply replace the entire rad and don't change tanks.

There are some that will though.

I had the driver side plastic tank replaced. The new rad was costing me about $300 - I had the tank repaired for $140 by a local rad shop. The key, I was told, was to use geniune GM gasket so that there is no leak.

My radiator developed a crack (and resultant leak) a couple months ago so, being the resident tightwad, I busted out the ol' plastic welder and had at it. No leaks yet, heh, heh. Not the prettiest thing to look at, but nobody sees it when the hood is closed. :D

Yep, had to do that on the last 97 I owned. Little JB Weld makes for a very functional joint. Clean with Alcohol, roughen with sandpaper, reclean with alcohol, apply (mixed well) JB weld.

My wifes truck has a AC Condensor leak fixed with JB Weld. (Took a rock) With the above steps, it's held for 4 years now. :D
