Antilock Brake Light

Ok, this has gone on for awhile now, and it's driving me nuts when I see it. My antilock light was intermittently going on and off when I first got the car (September '04), then it just stayed on one day, and has stayed on ever since. I know that the shop uptown inspected it and while he took the left-front wheel off it came on. Once he was done, I shut it down and started it back up and it was off again. Does anyone know what caused this? I need to get this fixed as soon as I can. It's my wife's main transportation, and one of my worries is the brakes will fail or something, which has happened a few times already. What happened was I was driving (thank goodness) and hit the brakes, and the car had a vibration through the brake pedal, with a constant "click click click" noise that kept on happening as long as I was holding the brakes, plus the pedal was pushing back up at me. If anyone has any idea what would cause this, please let me know.

Maybe when the left front was off, a wheel speed sensor got unplugged or jostled and isn't making a good connection.

As the for clicking and pedal pushing back up. I believe you experienced the ABS system working properly.

Check your wheel bearings. Do you have a loud "humming" noise when you drive that get's better or worse with a certain turn on the wheel?

Bill,

I'll take a look underneath it later on to see if something's unplugged. On to the ABS working properly, the pedal was hard, not like it should be. I've had a few other cars with ABS (some older and some newer than this) that never did anything like this at all. I was pushing down on the brakes as hard as I could, but the clicking was going on and the brakes didn't work at all. I didn't push the brakes in all at once or very fast. I did it just like I normally do, and it wouldn't even slow down the car.

The only vibration I have in the car is at certain RPMs (can't remember exactly), but it sounds like a catalytic converter shield rubbing on the body or something. No other noises except for the rattling from the engine (also at certain RPMs...I think it's the backlash or something...heard someone else say what it was before).

Hmmm may be other parts of the ABS system giving you a hard time. I think Kenn and Willwren have some experience here and I'll ask for their input.
