Anti-Theft Idea
 

I had an idea, wiring up the wire from the start circuit on the ignition (the line to the starter relay) to the cruise control on/off switch so as to prevent the car from starting when the cruise control switch is in the off position. Could anyone tell me if there would be any problem with doing that, and if there aren't any problems could someone maybe scan some wiring diagrams so I could do this??? Any other thoughts on this idea??? Any thoughts would be GREATLY appreciated.

i have really done nothing along the lines with the anti theft but if you dont want it to start for that reason, just add a toggle switch that opens the ac power input from the crank sensor to the ign. module. or even the bat + to the ign module

With electrical, anything is possible. You are basically just turning the cruise control into a switch. Depends how you wire it though. What happens if you accidently put the cruise control back to "on" when driving and the car shuts off? Depends, I am going to assume you want to make it a kill switch so that is what would happen. Be better just to do a seperate kill switch rather than mess with something like that. That's my take.

one other thing about the cruise switch. i really dont think they can handle the voltage draw on it. they have very thin wiring .
best to have a hidden switch that is dedicated for that reason

What I was thinking was wire up the starter circuit (the circuit that actually engages the starter), not the ignition circuit (the circuit that keeps the car running) to the cruise control switch. That way once the car was started it would not matter what position the cruise control switch was in as the ignition would be unaffected, only the starter circuit. See where I am going??

but still , the cruise switch isnt made to carry that much current to go to the starter relay. you will burn it up quick. you can even mount it inside the glove box if you want, but i would defintly use a seperate switch to do this

The voltage going through the starter circuit BEFORE the relay should be in the range of 5 volts (and relatively low amps) if I am not mistaken. If that is the case I don't think it would cause any problem. I think you are thinking about the voltage in the starter circuit AFTER the relay, which should be much higher amps (which would burn out the cruise control switch). So, do you see where I am going now???

ok, first of all, the only thing in the car that takes 5 volts are the sensor reference voltages. it still takes 12 volts to fire the relay. they take the same voltage as the starter feed , just not the amps. have you ever seen the wiring in a cruise switch. they are smaller in diamter than the wires in a phone line. and i also thin that the wires to the start relay is like 14 gauge, maybe 16 but i dont think so.
i just dont want you to burn up a cruise switch and then not beable to start your car, plus the cruise switcher arent cheap to replace

Didn't think of the wire size, that would be a major issue, hmm... I think I'm starting to think you're right. Anyone else have any imput on this one??? ::thinks to self "what are you doing thinking at 4:35 AM you should be sleeping"::
