Default EGR Valve (Question)

My egr valve works and we just put a new gasket on it but the Check Engine light still hasn't gone off.. does this PCM need to be reset or should it automatically detect that its working now? Also could the problem be down wind of the EGR valve like the 02 Sensor or some build up in the pipeing? Thanks for all posts,

~Aaron

Aaron, What was the original code? Some DTC'* will clear after so many start cycles where the PCM no longer detects the problem that initiated the DTC. Or you need a Tech II (Dealership) to clear the DTC. Will the Actron code readers clear codes? Anyone know? Remove power from the PCM for a few minutes will reset the PCM.

The original Code was DTC P0401 = "EGR Flow Snsufficient" than a little bit down it says, "Mil REQUESTED, Since IGN NOT RUN, Since Clear P/F" so what exactly does that interput into? Thanks,

Basically, the PCM runs a test on the EGR system during deceleration by momentarily commanding the EGR valve open and comparing to the MAP input. So maybe there is still a problem with your EGR valve. That is what the DTC P0401 indicates, insufficient EGR flow. "MIL" Requested is the actual check engine light on the instrument cluster being requested by the PCM. If you feel confident that the EGR valve is functioning correctly, disconnect the battery for a few minutes then reconnect. If the EGR is not at fault, the DTC shouldn't set again.

Yeah, its not at fault took it to a shop had it tested, and watched the valve open and the 2nd test it passed as well, so im guessing hte pcm just needs reset and if it comes up again then i know there is another problem else where. Thanks,

`Aaron
