Another MAF screen story!
 

Took mine out last night while I was working on my CAI. Ran like dog crap at idle. Drove it for awhile to try to teach it, to no avail. I've read failure and success stories on this, I'm one of the former. I'm wondering if it's a factor of NA or SC? Maybe the guys with ported and polished intakes have better luck. Anyway, my CAI work taught me an important lesson. At least with the SC engines, you want an intake surface area at least 4X the original. This has always proved to be 2X on the NA intakes I've done in the last 10 years or so, but the SC really hungers for the flow. I'm burying the Boost needle now, with no pulley change. Good thing, 'cuz I can't find a smaller Series I pulley anywhere.

Anybody had any similar experiences with MAF or CAI :?:

Uh actually that problem is so rare with the MAF screen and a "CAI" that you probably did something wrong or your car just must not like it. What did you use for a CAI?

Modified the original box with 3 2" diameter holes behind the headlight, ducted to the fender, behind the headlight, and below the air dam.....big hoses are hard to route. This mod made a huge diff in performance and boost capability. I've been doing this to cars for years. Yes, I'm running and K&N.

You do realize that the original box is still a big restriciton along w/ the accordian tube does not promote smooth airflow... Try doing a brand new intake and you will see a big difference.

I agree, the MAF screen prob is very rare. Everyone I've talked to (skza, SSEi95, etc..) that have done this have had great success with it and no problems. Just seems odd.. 99BonnevilleSE is right though, that accordian hose is a big flow sapper. I plan on replacing mine asap when I can find some straight hose / pipe in that size.
