Annoying check oil light comes on.

Anyone know an easy fix for my check oil light. It comes on after starting my SE
for about 2 or 3 minutes everytime I start it.
I guess I could pull the bulb if I ever take the dash out but would like to avoid doing this
for a minor problem.

Have you checked the oil level? Silly question but I still have to ask it. The oil level sensor is simply a level on/off switch. It is not hard to get to if you want to check it. If memory serves me correctly if the sensor is open (no continuity) then the level is low. Therefor if the level is sufficient in the oil pan then the continuity will be there. The way that you can fool the system if it annoys you too much and you don't want to change the sensor (it can't be that expensive and is not hard to change) simply unplug the connector to the sensor and put a paperclip in it and tape it up with electrical tape (barbaric if you ask me).

I did the same thing but only to my windshield low fluid light

on a series II the sensor is in the front of the oil pan ( closest to the bumper.. mine has been disconnected also )

oil sensor

The oil level isnt low but at the last oil change I unscrewed the sensor thinking its
gunked up or something (it wasn't). Seems to be an optical sensor from the looks
of it on a 96.
Its a three wire electrical connector I think the outer terminals are 12 v & Ground.
Which two should I jump to bypass it.
I 'm a stickler for checking and changing oil and I see no need for this annoyance.
Thanks

Put the sensor in the right way, and hook it up the right way, and you'll be fine. Hows your oil pressure?

SSEBONNE4EVA 06-01-2004 11:59 AM

oil pressure

oil pressure is about 40 lbs. but I don't think this system uses that reading.
