Alternator Bearings.
Awhile back I posted that I thought the bearings in a tensioner pulley was going. After exchanging both pulleys around the problem still existed so upon further investigation and using a stethoscope I now feel that it's the alternator bearing. Has anyone ever changed the bearings and is there a kit for it?

There was a topic about this awhile back. Being the 95 you're talking about, your bearing is a closed needle bearing (the rear is). It's very similar to the needle bearings for the rotors in the SC. I'm not sure what press depth would be, but that could be determined by measuring the old one before you press it out.
Is it the front or the rear? Can you tell? The trickiest part will be reassembling the case so you don't have bind. The stud torque is VERY critical. You might want to fire off an email to www.mralternator.com and ask if he sells the bearings and would be willing to give you the torque spec. Tell him I sent you. He might remember me. (he's the builder of the kick-ass beautiful red 160-amp alternator under one of my hoods). |
Thanks for the reply will, I believe it's the rear bearing that is in question. I'll send an email to www.mralternator.com and await there reply. If anyone can remember who posted the topic that will is talking about awhile back, I'd like to get feedback.

As well, have you checked in your local area for a rebuilder? I know of one semi local to me and he go throught the alternator and rebuild it for about $30.

Next time I'm in your area Bill, I'll take it to your rebuilder, cause they're not that cheap here. Other Candian's can chime and and verify that. |
