Check Engine Light and Lean Mixture Code
My 97 SSEi needs to be inspected. I've been driving a while with the check engine light. My mechanic checked the codes and received a lean mixture indicator. He diagnosed it as a line pressure leak in a tube under the throttle body. He needs to order the part from the dealer. I can't pass inspection with the check engine on.
Is anyone familiar with this problem? I haven't really noticed any problems driving.

Got the car back from the mechanic. He told me that it might not pass inspection because the Check Light is intermittent. Sometimes it comes on after hard acceleration or open throttle. He noticed that the MAF Screen was removed and didn't know why. Anyway, he said that it might be causing the light to come on.
I have a after market CAI with a SLP Cone Filter and 60degree tube intake. It has an Intense PCM, Colder Autolite Plugs and performance wires. He thinks it'* possibly getting too much air and using too much gas. Does anyone know if this is causing the check engine light to be on? I can't inspect the car with this condition.
My other SSEi does have the MAF Screen removed also but it has a K&N replacement filter with the stock air box. It doesn't have the check engine on at any time.
My previous car ('95 SSE) also had the MAF Screen removed with no problems.
I've heard that some cars have idle problems and some not. Should I put the MAF Screen back?

Well, I installed the MAF Screen and the check engine light went away after the next day of driving. It should pass the inspectiopn now. The only difference I've noticed is that the gas pedal feels harder at the low end. After inspecting it, I'll see if it feels the same. Also, I used to get a bit more than 8psi of boost at full throttle and now I get a bit less than 8. So, I'll have to remove and install the MAF Screen for the yearly inspection.
