I just got my 2k throttle body that I ordered from ebay. its a little dirty and I plan to polish and smooth the hell out of it but ran into a snag. its got these damn screws on all the sensors. I figured I will just drill out the old screws, can someone tell me the thread size on these things? I am going to get new hex heads for it.


There are 2 other possible snags, I plan on changing the throttle plate to the older brass one because the new style does not look like it will flow the best.


The other snag, the old tb has 2 vacc ports and the new one only has 1. The good news is there is a plug where the second port should be and I can drill it out and go from there.
Any input from the tb and p&p gurus would be appreciated.

they are security torx bits. you have 2 options

1. buy the bit to remove the screws
2. use a dremel and put a notch in the head, then use a flathead screwdrive to remove the screw.

i suggest replacing them with some normal screws

Those are tamper-proof torx screw heads. You can buy a set from Sears or Harbor Freight.

Moving this to 92-99 since this isn't Performance related...yet.

Depending on the screw, they could either be M3 or M4 thread pitch (for your replacements).

Thanks guys, I just took a 11/64 drill bit and a steady hand to drill out the center of the heads. I have the tb completely appart now. So whats the deal with the wedge shaped thottle plates? I heard from the mech at the Pontiac dearership that it is supposed to direct some of the incoming air down at the egr tube to help cool it, is that true?

is this a postless TB that you whant to swap for one whit a post if so the maf are not the same

My original tb has the post, the one I am putting in does not have the post. I do have all the sensors for the postless tb. I still need to find out if the older brass throttle plate is the same size as the aluminium one in the 99-03 tb. also I have widened the inlet of this thing by about 1/8 of an inch,smoothed out alot of curves and edges. and filled and blended the maf bump on the roof of the tb.

well this is not a simple bolt on you need a tuner or youre going to run lean at the top end im waiting to install mine to get the right table for the maf

What causes it to run lean? it came off a L36 just like the one I have, only newer.
