airmix actuator cause A/C run HOT??
 

Hey, Before I take it back to the dealership for $460 to get actuator replaced I was wondering if it is possible for the little door stuck blowing hot air cause the A/C to blow hot air as well. One day the A/C works the other day it doesnt. I might be low on freon but I want an expert opionin before i spend my hard earned money. The outside temp reads normal. Im a college student need to save as much as possible :D

when you select your desired temperture, does your temp flash?

Yes, if the airmix actuator is stuck or busted in some other manner (or just opinionated), it can blow hot air even with the AC on.

my 90 ocassionally gets stuck on hot. Have to give it a nudge (behind the glove) and it
works. Picked up a replacement at the Junk yard and one day I'll put it in.

Interesting, cause my compressor kicks on ...but me no get cold air. Next project to schedule. Good Thread

yes, the ECC does flash and I spent 80 bucks at the dealership to tell me the actuator was bad. Man I hope I aint gotta replace my whole darn A/C system

If the actuator is the only code that the dealer pulled then that's the only thing you will need to replace. There are two methods:

1) Pull the dash
2) Pull the heater core cover

I chose #1 because there wasn't a lot of other information available when I changed my actuator and most of the interior was already out of the car. Since then, there has been discussions here and AF that prove that it is possible, and considerably easier, to change it without removing the dash. The idea is to remove the HVAC programmer and PCM in order to remove the heater core cover. The actuator resides on top of this cover.

well... I got an appointment for monday @ the dealership ( I hope they dont call me unexpected with more crap that need fixin!) I'll let you'll know if that fixed the problem :D

The dealership can fix any problem. Just look at their supercharger fix. Don't let them whack you too hard. If necessary just use them for diagnosis and do the work yourself.

My 94 has the same problem right now with the actuator(I think). Unfortunately, I took the center console and dash assembly off prior to having the codes read on the computer for free at Auto Zone or similar. Duh. My temp display light was flashing as well. I'm guessing it's probably the actuator in my case. Does anyone know how to get that part? Alot of part sites online don't seem to carry it. I'd prefer to get a new one, and not one off of a junk yard car. Perhaps I need to call a dealer to get one. Any idea?

I don't know how anyone could get to it without removing the dash assembly. It's quite high up for reaching it down below the passenger side. Not to mention impossible without removing other components next to it, such as the PCM. Two small screws mount it on top of the assembly, a small electrical connector to the PCM and the valve rod attaching it to the valve door.

Anyway, any luck in getting this part? Where and how much? Thanks.
