K I know that is a safety thing and it works great, except when there is low traction situations. Kinda the opposite of what it should be no? I don't no about everyone else'* but with mine when I pound the brake in low traction emergency stops the ABS is WAY too slow!!! It'* like brake for half a second release for a full second etc. All the while I'm not stopping. By far it is the worst braking car I have ever driven in poor traction, and most unsafe. So that is why I'd like to turn it off for the winter. Can I just pop the fuse out? Any thoughts guys?

Yup, you can pop the fuse, but your ABS certainly doesn't sound like it'* working. Mine stops me in the same distance with or without (I mean when it was working), it just gives me better braking/steering control in low traction situations.

I'm just the opposite of you, I want to get mine FIXED before winter. ABS has saved my neck a couple times.

I don't know what year your car is, but if it'* like mine, the big ABS fuse is in the relay center in the engine compartment, passenger side firewall, right below the wiper arm.

Is there a way to disable only the rear through fuses ?? I like ABS idea in the front, but not the rear... old truck habits If I can get that done before winter... I'd get to know my car real well in the first heavy snowfall.. in a safe open mall parking lot or car pool parking at nite since they're usually dead by then...

From what I understand about the system, if you try to disable the rear, the system will shut down. I'm obviously more familiar now with the Teves Mark IV system used from 91-93, and don't know anything about the Bosch system used from then on. Teves II was used from 86-90, Teves IV from 91-93, Delco VI from 94-95, and Delco Bosch V from 96-99. They actually went backwards a step. I don't know what the 00 and up uses.

BTW, while I was at the dealer today, they got a box of the new 2003 Bonneville brochures. I didn't get one. I was too depressed about my ABS.

I could see what BLK-Bonnie means... my friends old 89 Ford ( yea, I know.. that'* the problem right there ) F150 that exhibits the same kinda characteristic as you described.. but not as severe...I guess that'* why they maybe stepped back in system?? Why ruin a good thing.. maybe they couldn't do better just yet...

Well I can safely say (by actually being here that is) that ABS saved my life! ABS equipped vehicles DO NOT any faster or any shorter distances than non-ABS equipped vehicles! An ABS equipped vehicle just doesn't allow the wheels to lock up (& skid). It keeps the wheels rolling so you can still steer while braking hard. It'* not like the old RWD vehicles where the power came from the rear wheels. FWD'* front wheels needs to keep rolling to steer safely. Now that I've done my lecture speach about ABS, I wouldn't get rid of ABS on any vehicle! Wait until your first panic stop on a slippery road & you'll thank me! Without ABS you'll end up in the ditch or worse upside down or on top of another car! Believe me when I say this, I'm older than most here, yes, this my second ABS equipped car. Sure it feels weird on when hitting the brake hard. NOTE: because of what I do for a living I REFUSE to help anyone DISABLE a SAFETY FEATURE on ANY vehicle. Sorry guys but I couldn't live with myself if someone dies because of what advice I gave them!

So I just have to take out the fuse and that'* it? I assume that the ABS light on the dash will light up, but other then that there will be no problems? I'll give it a try...thanks.

I like sleeping nights for one thing & I never like seeing other people get screwed by a saleman! How else do you think I got to be where I am today? I've devoted my life to helping out other Bonneville owners when ever possible BUT to a point. :? This was the main reason why I became the moderator of Bonneville Intensity Group on Yahoo! Don't get me wrong though, I am a salesman, I can still sell snow to an eskimo & make him pay top dollar for it too! 20 years in various sales positions will do that to a guy.

Ok here is one for ya # 1 I agree disabling ABS is well crazy. Now for the fun. I had a Chevy ZR2 Blazer and when I cornered hard well I plowed and when you are plowing your tire sideways you have nothing. No ABS will not save you. Don’t be fooled. It will help if you are stopping and have the capability to get traction even in a corner, but if you have lost traction completely like when you are plowing at 60k through a corner then hang on.
