I have the 4T60 E transmission in my 93 SSEi...im going to change the fuild, seal, and filter on it...what i need to know is how much fluid will it take once the pan has been removed and it has been drained...and also what is the tourque specs on the trans pan bolts?? Also my fluid is a nice red and doesnt smell burnt so i figure its just good maintence..is there any transmission additive i should toss in there befor/after the change?

Matt, I don't have my book handy right now. How soon do you need this info? Just PM me (so I don't forget) and I'll post it here.

1. Drive the vehicle 15 miles to warm the fluid before removing the pan.
2. Using a 10mm socket, remove the bolts from the front and sides of the pan.
3. Loosen the rear bolts about four turns.
4. Tap the pan with a rubber mallet (or your head) to allow the fluid to drain.
5. Remove the pan and filter.
6. Clean 'er up and get ready to re-install.
7. Coat the filter seal with a small amount of petroleum jelly, then install the seal onto the filter.
8. Install the filter. Install a new gasket (not cork.....get an OEM gasket).
9. Install bolts in a criss-cross pattern, 12-13 ft/lbs for 91-99 vehicles. (16-17 Nm).
10. You should need about 12 PINTS of fluid. If this were a full overhaul (including draining the TC) you'd need 22.

Your forgot "Plan to make a huge mess as fluid runs down your arms" It'* messy job, but I noticed an improvement when I did mine, and I may do it again before winter as I have an extra filter in the trunk. My fluid was pretty nasty last time...

Well today i bought at the dealer a new Ac delco filter and 8 liters of dexron III fluid. The guy said it wouldnt require a new gasket because the existing one is re usable..so i took his work for it forked out 70 bucks and headed home...changed it made a HUGE mess nothing alot of sawdust didnt fix. But upon removing the old filter the neck going up into the transmission broke off in side the tranny so i carfully stuck a small flathead in there and broke the plasic parts off and removed them and cleaned the hole out with new atf...seems to work just fine now and leak free..the fluid was a darker red, but not burnt in anyway, there was the usual gray sludge on the bottom of the pan but i cleaned it all up including the magnet. Thanks for all the specs!

You bet. Now the next step would be a full flush. Getting the fluid/particles out of the TC is of huge benefit to higher-mileage transmissions. I felt a big improvement in mine, and since I have a scantool, I could actually see the the improvement in TC slip.

I was slipping 50-100 rpm'* in lockup, and now I'm under 10.
