Random misfire.. what to check besides plugs, wires, coilpack
Hello everyone,
the wifes 96 Olds 98 started throwing random misfire codes at me only when doing 70+mph and bucking of course. I won't have the car until friday where I plan to check the plugs, wires, and coilpacks. Its definitely not chuggle. the rpms drop, not rise
Since this only happens at speed, might my problem be ignition module related or would I get a different code thrown at me for that?
Also I would like to go thru and clean up grounds, besides the obvious battery cables, where else might they be? I realize this is a Bonne forum, but you guys are SOOO much better than any olds forum I've tried
thanks,
popa tim

I had the same random mis fire code...plugs and wires fixed it.
also, had the same symptoms you described except it happened between 52&55 when accelerating in OD.

The only grounds related to the ignition, are the ones on the ICM Bracket. Since you have a S2, not sure if this applies to you, but just follow the Negative Battery Cable, you'll find it, wherever it may be. I doubt that is you problem though, but it doesn't hurt.
Sounds like a wire to me.. but ya never know.
