Default ABS error code help

Hey All,

So, I was able to get my ABS fault code scanned at a local shop, which made my day. I had feared that a trip to the dealer was in my future, but was pleased when they found a code for me.

Turns out my right front WSS is reading an open. After reading thru the archive posts, it mentioned that occasionally just messing with the connector can sometimes solve the sensor reading. I have suffered a couple serpentine belt failures with this car, and belt scraps wacking the wiring was mentioned as a possible culprit in one of the posts. I've also had my harmonic balancer pulley replaced, and the very first time I saw the fault lights on the dash was not too long after that. Could be coincidence, though.

I'd love to verify that I do indeed NEED a new hub and sensor, before turning a shop loose replacing anything, especially given the part cost, and need for an alignment probably afterwards.

So, what can I try on my own at home first? I can hopefully reach the plug inside the frame rail to attempt to clean, grease and reconnect the wires & plug. Anything else that you can suggest to verify the need for a hub and sensor? I'm looking at strut replacement soon as well, and would like to make sure I spend my money wisely regarding this matter. Thanks for any guidance you can share!

If you have a multimeter, check the resistance across the pins of the sensor side of the connector. I don't know what it should be, but if it reads open, I'd inspect the wiring between the connector and the sensor. If you don't find any thing, you probably need a new sensor/hub.

the following applies to 2000+ Bonnevilles, but your'* is probably close.

850-1350 Ohms of resistance across the WSS
100 mV of AC voltage while spinning

either way, get down there and inspect it, check for corrosion, and re-seat the connector.

FYI - you don't need an alignment after replacing a hub. Replacing a hub will not harm your alignment.

Default bad wire, bad hub

Yup, open circuit code, check that hub as explained, and the wiring. Good chance you have a damaged harness, probably near the frame rail, where it passes from the engine compartment to the wheel. The belts hammering around in there could have started it, then all the nice salt and slime from living where we do got everything nice and bluish green. Either way, an easy fix, but may take some time to pinpoint it. Mike
