ABS Brake "Auto Bleed" needed if brake system empt
 

When my brakes recently failed due to a ruptured brake line, the rear brake system bled completely dry. I have since bled it and changed the Master Cylinder, opposite side rear cylinder (due to broken bleeder) and still have the spongy brake pedal. I do have a badly warped or ? rotor on my right front that needs attention, but can't seem to get past the spongy brake pedal. Does anyone have any additional ideas?

I haven't seen any type of autobleed on your year by say actuating the abs pump.

Best I've seen for it would be a power bleeder like summit racing/jegs would sell. I'd say address all your brake issues then bleed all 4 wheels extremely well. Until then you removed a weak point of the system and maybe caused the next weakest link to show itself.

Was looking into some info on the system... It only mentioned Manual bleeding or pressure bleeding as Boost mentioned above

Did you bench bleed the new master cylinder before you put it on, per recomendations?

If you didn't, that's something you should do first, IMO. ;)

This is from Chilton's manual,page9-41.
"The auto-bleed procedure is used to provide a complete brake system bleed on vehicles with ABS.The procedure cycles the system valves and runs the pump to purge air from secondary cirquits normally closed off during non ABS/TSC mode operation and bleeding. ...... "

Here is again warning from the same manual:

"For 1994-99 vehicles with ABS ,after bleeding the brake system you must perform an 'Autobleed" sequence,using Tech-1 or equivalent scan tool....."

I also need to do it having spongy brakes and I did some research on it.It's better to hook it to Tech 1 for autobleeding and while performing autobleed in the same time it checks all ABS system if it works properly.Some expences,but peace of mind later I guess.

Yes, I did bench bleed. I have some more work to do on front rotors, and to replace left knuckle (for the sensor coil) before ABS will even work right. After all that, then I'll try taking into GM dealer for the Super Technical Bleeding Sequence... or whatever you want to call it.

I ran into this before. If you can't get a Tech1, just lock up the brakes on loose gravel from 30MPH or so. Do it close to home as you have to use the E-Brake the whole way home. Bleed and repeat until you feel you have the ABS system bled.
