99 SE -> start it up...shuts right down!
It'* exactly that....today I went out and started up my 99 and it ran for about a second (no more than that) and shut itself right back down. The A/C was still left on from my drive in (typically I'm anal and shut it off when I get out of the car to reduce strain on the engine for when I start it back up again). The car started right back up just fine (A/C was still in the "on" position) and I drove away with no issues. I had no check engine light and no security light. I started and stopped three times after it acted up with no incident. Also, when it shut down it was not bogging at all...more of like electrically being shut down. Car has 3/4 tank of gas. Anyone have any thoughts??

That'* what I'm thinking too, but nontheless, I wanted to see if anybody else has seen/heard of it.
Been an excellent car from day one and I don't like oddities!

Fuddy, once the car is running, would a loose battery cable really kill the engine? Granted, you don't want an open charging circuit anyway in order to avoid damaging the alternator, but assuming his alternator isn't _already_ dead (and thus he'* running on the battery), would it really kill a running engine?

Interestingly, when I had issues with my battery cables, the gauges started flickering and moving back and forth, I never remember the engine shutting down but it did stumble. Not sure if newer cars will run on the alternator alone or not, tough call.

Re-check any ground wiring / connections that were removed for the intake install.
Could be a loose or dirty wire continuity problem.
Did you get any dash check engine lights?

I didn't get any dash lights. It'* been fine since yesterday. Have started it a dozen times since the failure and it hasn't reoccured. I will try wiggling the key, verify my grounds are in tact, make sure cables going to the alternator are tight, and tighten the battery cables.

Typically, problems where a car just cuts out without hesitating, which may indicate fuel delivery, are typically related to the igniction control, PCM, or one of the sensors that feeds into the system. It'* possible you had a sensor go wacky on you a single time that caused the car to shut down. It wouldn't trigger a light b/c usually a problem has to occur a few times or for a certain duration before a light triggers. If it is a recurring sensor issue, a light will(well, should) eventually trigger. If the ICM or PCM isn't getting or producing correct voltages, it'll trip a light too. Keep driving it and see if it happens again. Until then, it'* hard to diagnose a problem that isn't happening.
