Front end vibration - new post
I was following and posting to this thread http://www.bonnevilleclub.com/forum/...ic.php?t=82167but its several months old so I decided to start my own. My problem is very similar.
Front end vibration felt in steering wheel from 50 – 80mph increasing with speed but decreasing higher than 80mph. I can see the drivers wheel vibrate when its run up to speed on the rack. Here’* what I’ve tried:
I put new BFGs on - no luck.
Put my brothers 96 bonnie wheels on my car - no luck. (His car didn't vibrate with my wheels either).
New driver side wheel bearing - no luck.
New driver side axel - no luck.
New rotors - no luck.
New drivers side outter tie rod - no luck.
Checked the steering rack bolts as WillWren mentioned. They are tight and normal.
I get no play pulling up and down on the wheels (12/6) but I do get a slight amount (equal on both wheels) of play pulling side to side 9/3. Isn’t a little bit of play side to side normal? Maybe not…
Could I be mistakenly looking at the wrong side? Could something (tie rod etc) on the passenger side cause the vibration I’m seeing in the driver’* wheel? Any thoughts on that?

You have done a good job looking for the problem. It is most often caused by wheel and tire issues, which you have effectively ruled out. That leaves suspension parts. The logical place to look is at those parts most likely to wear.
There should not be any play when you rock back and forth at a 9/3 position. It may move easily, but there should be no noticeable play. If there is, I would be looking for a tie rod problem. More likely outer, but could be an inner as well.
And....it is possible to perceive a problem on the right front as a problem on the left. Vibrations and resonance phenomena are not always simple and straightforward. I have even been fooled with vibrations front to rear!

In addition to tie rods causing problems, an alignment thats out will cause the wheels to scub against each other and vibrate at high speeds. How is the alignment and tire wear look? Is it even?
Does it go straight down the road or pull?
