'98 SSEI Heater/AC problem

I just found this site and am really happy to be here. I've been going to Grand Prix sites for help on engine things but this site looks great. My '98 SSEI has automatic temperature control and the problem is it's very slow switching to the different outlets, i.e. dash to defrost or to floor or mix. It seems to always be on defrost when I start it with varying times to switch modes. Could this be a vacuum problem? I hope it's not the expensive control. Will dash need to be taken apart? What's involved? Thanks for the help.

I'm no expert in this area, Toddster is much better. But I would start with your air mix actuator moving? Are you having problems in auto mode? Or is it also giving you trouble in manual.

It's both auto and manual. I found this article.....maybe this?

A/C Service Tech Tip: How to redirect the cooled air in late model GM cars
