98 Bonneville Rear Suspension Squeak
 

I'm getting a low level squeak from somewhere in the rear suspension. Only hear it when your either in the car or getting in/out. When I lie down behind the car and have someone push down on the car, don't hear it. Possibly the sway bar bushings?

Sounds like you hit it on the money... I have been there and done that as well...

Spray some WD40 on 'em. If that doesn't do it, spray the endlinks. If that doesn't do it, spray up above to try to get some on the upper strut mounts. You'll find it. I bet that squeak is worse in the cold?

Even being a semi-new person to this forum, I felt like I had to chime in. I started getting a squeak just as you described getting in/out (worse in cold) and I had my bushings and things around it greased HEAVILY by my mechanic about 2 months ago when it started, still no squeak to this day since then, definetly go the "grease it" route, it's cheap and you have almost nothing to lose :-) I will make a note, not to contradict anyone here cause I know very little compared to these gearheads, but I think my mechanic mentioned he used something stronger than wd-40?

WD40 isn't a lubricant. At least not for long. It's a WATER DISPLACING chemical. Hence the codename. 40th try and they got it right.

I mentioned it to FIND the squeak. I'm more the type that wants to know exactly what it is, then deal with it.

To answer willwren, yes it is more pronounced when it is colder. It's been in the 20's the last few days. I will try the WD 40 route this weekend. Thanks!!

with my experience I really don't like spraying chemicals like WD40 on rubber/poly bushings, I've heard a lot about it speeding up the decay of these materials. I prefer a good silicone lubricant. Any opinions?
