98 bonneville clicks once but doesnt start!

hello :) im Casey, i have a 98 bonneville that has had problems off and on for a few years now. I seem to be revisiting a previous issue i had which was resolved by replacing the ignition wires ( i was told by a mechanic that the 98 bonneville has a design flaw. with every turn of the key the wires get twisted and eventually wear out). The best way to describe my problem is that when i turn the key, it clicks once and i get nothing. the problem has been going on for months, after about 5 or 6 attempts to start the car it would eventually start but recently it doesnt matter how many times i try all i get is a single click. i have tried jumpstarting the car thinking the battery might be bad to no avail.electronics in the car seem to function normally. if i pump the gas then immediately turn the key, i get a series of quiet clicks that lasts about 2 or 3 seconds. this car is driving me nuts! any help from anybody would be GREATLY appreciated!

This is a common problem. What you said I have never heard of before. The problem is the battery. Remove the cables and clean them real good. Should fix it right up.

If cleaning the terminals and wires going to your battery doesn't work, you may also want to get your battery tested. A dead cell in a battery can do exactly what you are describing.
