Default Pulley Noise is Killing me!

I searched 3800pro, ClubGP and here before I posted.

There is something squeeling in the engine bay. It started the first winter I had the Bonne, the squeel. I replaced the belt first because it was old and needed replacing anyway.....still there. I got my ear as close as safely possible and it sounded like it was coming from down low....like it may be the PS pump. I get a Morad special PS pump and install it.....STILL THERE.

I figured....100K on the car I'll replace the WP now and see if that does it. So again I got the Morad special and a gasket from AZ this afternoon. I thought before I started I would take the belt off and see if the squeel goes away because I haven't tried this yet...I know....should have done this FIRST. SQUEEL STILL THERE! I am getting very frustrated since it HAS to be the balancer, but get this. I put the belt back on and was gonna call it a day after it appeared to be the balancer and not the WP.

I decided to take a video of the balancer squeeling with the belt off for archive purposes. I started the car with the belt off.....NO SQUEEL! Belt back on and it squeels, take it off and nothing. I pulled if off and put it back on about 5 times and could not get it to squeel with the belt off again.

What does everyone think? My GTP is down waiting for parts and I cant do anything to the Bonne until the GTP is on the road so I have a backup car if I cant finish the Bonne in tome for some reason.

I have a GTP balancer on hand but would it even work?

Please advise.

Vinnie

No...thats not it. I can hear it the entire time I'm driving and when parked after a drive in park.

I know i can use the L67 balancer because the GP GT guys that do top end swaps use that balancer.

I have something very similar on my 1995. I thought for sure it was coming from the alt, i switched out the alts and the sound went away for about 25 minutes and then came back. I would discribe it as a screech though. It has puzzled me and it drives me crazy

There are differences between the GP balancers and Bonneville balancers from year to year.

Harofreak00 swapped a GTP motor into his 2000 Bonneville and it wouldn't run with the GTP balancer. The interrupter rings are slightly different.

If you are trying to locate a noise, a long screwdriver cuppoed to your ear or a stethescope ($15 at Sears) are invaluable tools.

Or to the bracket that holds the pulley. Either way as long as you are close to the pulley there should be a good indication of which one is bad.
