96 SE Heater Fan?
My AC/Heat fans always been a little loud, but it worked. Until monday. Worked fine, then quit, then 15 minutes later worked again. Same thing yesterday and today, it would work, then not work. I did a search on here, and found someone else had the same problem, but they had a 99 and my friend said he thought the 99's have resistors, but my 96 does not. Can anyone confirm than that? Is my fan motor shot? How tough of a job is swapping that out? Is there anything else that it could be? Thanks

It should have a resistor.
You could connect a multi-meter to the blower electrical connector and determine if its the electrical system or the blower causing it to cut in and out. |

This thread describes my experience with my Automatic Climate Control. But even if you have 'manual' controls, you will still have a resistor. If so, you are in luck-- new replacement resistors are only about $20. https://www.gmforum.com/1992-1999-91/perseverence-bonne-dna-%3D-heater-success-288123/ First test your fan by applying 12V to it. If it comes on, then most likely the resistor is bad. The resistor sits on top of the heater box at the passenger side of the firewall, tucked under the fuse panel. Toughest part is moving the panel out of the way to get to it. |
Its the motor. Tapped it under the hood with a screwdriver and it came on. Got a new one for $51+ tax and am getting it installed monday.
