Sensor safe intake cleaning question?
I've checked to see if STP still makes the often recommended air intake/throttle cleaning spray and it seems they've discontinued that product recently according to their website. Would have liked to grab a few bottle to keep around for future TB cleanings.
I have seen a few other intake/throttle sprays from both CRC and Valvoline (carb, choke and throttle body cleaning spray) that I believe stated were O2 sensor safe...Since removing the MAF sensor is easy now that I've already removed the retaining screws, would these other 02 sensor safe sprays be okay to use in throttle body cleanings without risking damage to the TPS or IAC valve if they can't be easily removed?
How about the new CRC spray cleaner designed specifically for MAF sensors which I have used with positive results. If this spray is designed to safely clean MAF sensors wouldn't it also be safe for other sensors in the throttle body?

Frequently when a TB cleaner says "Sensor Safe" it means the sensors found in the throttle body. By the time that spray gets to the O2 sensors, it'* mere fumes and should not be harmful.
I've used a few different brands and found them to work well.
Having always cleaned a throttle body on a car w/o removal...I'd like to mention. Remove it...the amount of varnish and dirt that you miss by cleaning on the car is amazing. It is worth the time and gasket to remove it for a thorough cleaning.

You wouldn't beleive how bad mine was on the backside.

I think a lot of people here might want to take a look at CRCs "new" MAF Sensor Cleaner in the future when considering the delicate yet almost mandatory MAF cleaning when removing their throttle body/air intake for a more complete cleaning.
Not only does it NOT have the chemical Xylene in it (which is usually contained in most intake cleaners which can harm various plastics and rubbers) but according to the CRC website it is not only plastic safe and leaves no residue but it is safe to use on ALL other electronic components, SENSORS, and connectors.
