I'm over at 1337ssei'* house, and we just used a 3-arm puller (normally used for supercharger pulleys) to take the wheel hub off his 97 SSEi. We've taken it off, but I think the wheel hub fell apart within the steering knuckle. There are lots of plastic rings and goop, and the wheel hub fell away from the speed sensor. Now, we just have some wires sticking out, and the sensor cable is still clipped on and dangling loosely while the hub is away from the car.

We've been digging with a flat head screwdriver to remove the rings and goop so we can have a hole to fit the new wheel speed sensor. For right now, there'* such a tight fit that even the wires from the old wheel speed sensor won't pull through. I can't figure out what'* stuck. Please let me know how to dig out those rusty metal rings with orange goop that doesn't smell like anything.

I have done this a couple times on my 99 SSEi.
It is fairly simple.
I had the sensor stay in the knuckle while the rest of the hub came out.
I used a flat screw driver and wedged it between the knuckle and the sensor case and pried it up and working all the way around the sensor.
Once I had enough removed I used a hammer and the screw driver as a punch from the back side to knock the sensor out.
JUST BE CAREFULL NOT TO DAMAGE THE CV AXLE BOOTS.

Cool, thanks. Right now, the whole back side is on, but I'll still try prying it out from the sides and then beating it out from the back. Thanks for the tip!

I've used a similar method of bending the metal away from the hub with a screwdriver, but instead of hitting from the back, once I had enough to grab, I'd use a pair of vice grips to pull it out. Either way should work, though.
