96 Bonneville - Oil Leak

Reading in another thread I think I found the cause to one of my problems, but I'm not sure how to fix it. The oil pressure gauge is reading 0...oil is leaking very badly from somewhere above the filter.

Based on another thread, the "oil sender seals" may have blown? Would that account for the massive leak as well as the non-read on the oil pressure gauge?

Assuming that's the case...how do I replace those?

just a quick question did this start up after you changed the oil and oil filter

Yes, the day after in fact. I thought maybe I'd missed a gasket/seal or not screwed the filter on straight or something, but it all checked out. Put a new filter on just in case but it's leaking worse than ever.

I think he might have bumped the oil pressure sensor and broke it. That's a sensitive little booger. Broke my share while pulling engines.

I see two thoughts here.

One thought is if the oil pressure sensor didn't get bumped that a filter might be bad and causing high pressure. In this case you would want to replace the sensor and oil filter.

The other is that the sensor got bumped and the filter is ok. In that case the sensor needs to be replaced.

Here is a picture looking up from the bottom of the car. The blurry thing in my hand is the oil pressure sending unit. At the bottom of the picture is part of the oil filter and if you look straight up the picture you will see where the oil pressure sending unit is mounted. If that was broke off it sure would explain why the oil and 0 pressure reading. Good luck,
Mike
