96 bonneville bad motor

I just purchased a 96 bonne sse with a bad 3.8 series 2 engine. The engine knocks and has 0 oil pressure. I am going to to rebuild this engine and was wondering if this motor is known for the oil pump going out, I know some of the older buick 3.8s had oiling issues and does any one know of a good pump rebuild kit and would anyone suggest replacing the timing cover.

The oil pump is driven by the crank and one of the most reliable pumps you can get.

On rebuilding, have you checked into the prices of rebuilt or used? The motors are very common and it is usually more cost effective to buy a used or rebuilt motor than to rebuild one yourself.
