Default P1870????

Hello all this is my dirst post on the forum looks like a great place for info being i have been out of the GM loop for years while i worked for Ford. well i bought my first Bonnie i have owned pontiac'* and chevy'* before but never a from wheel drive. OK with that said i test drove this car has all gears trans fluid looks clean. it needs a passenger side front bearing but i also noticed that one side had a 225/60/16 the driver side has a 215/60/16 which is about 1.77% difference could that possibliy be setting the code? i know in some ford speed sensing is done at the hubs is it possible it could be the hub or the tire size difference? thanks in advance for any help im in North East PA any memebers out here?

Hello and Great to have you here!!!

DTC Code: P1870 = Trans component slipping

From a Tech II article on this code:

Vehicles should be inspected for correct tire size, axle ratio, or calibration. Diagnostic ApproachActionYesNoAttempt to duplicate DTC P1870.
I'm sure other members will chime in to help out better than me.

[IMG]file:///C:/Users/Bill/AppData/Local/Temp/moz-screenshot.jpg[/IMG][IMG]file:///C:/Users/Bill/AppData/Local/Temp/moz-screenshot-1.jpg[/IMG]CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION

The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) monitors the Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) slip by calculating the difference between the engine speed and the transmission output shaft speed. When the PCM detects an excessive amount of slip when the TCC is engaged, then DTC P1870 sets. DTC P1870 is a type A DTC.

DIAGNOSTIC AIDS

  • Ensure that the vehicle'* final drive ratio matches the PCM'* calibration.
  • Ensure that the transmission will shift through all four gears with the gear select lever in the D4 range.

so im am correct to think that the tire size differnce from side to side can be an issue with GM as well.

You can't have 2 different sized tires from side to side. This causes the diff to spin and can cause problems.
