Default HELP!! Where is the programmer??

Can anyone tell me where the HVAC programmer is located? Is it part of the climate control module, or is it separate? What is the actual name of the item? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

I want to say it'* part of the box that makes up the control panel, but can't swear to that without looking at the manual first (which is at home).

What'* your situation, anyway?

I took it in to have it looked at because it wasn't blowing very hard. It would blow cold, but not hard. He first noticed that the evap needed cleaning, bad, which he said did make it a little better, but that the programmer wasn't controlling the doors right. He also said that the blower was pulling 40 amps, which isn't right, and that someone had seriously tampered with the wiring in the dash. He said that all the fuses were 30 amp when they should be ten, but I couldn't find those 30 amp fuses. Well, now the blower doesn't blow at all, and it'* been 110+ around here with 80% humidity. Not fun, although the car is still fun to drive. I checked all fuses, under the dash and under the hood, all is good. I tapped the blower motor, nothing. I think I might replace the blower first before I go shopping for a programmer, in case the cleaning turned the trick. Any other ideas??

He seems to be awfully short of specifics here: I mean, was the blower working or not? What exactly was he referring to with his story about somebody tampering with the wiring? _What_ wiring _where_? And exactly what fuses did he see as 30 amps, if you can't find them yourself?

Was the blower working after you got it back from a cleaning?

I would check to see if the blower is getting current in its supply wire first, and also that it'* properly grounded. If so, pull the blower and bench-test it. Once it'* operating and pushing air, then you can see where the air is going and what temperature it is.

As for the compressor, you should be able to look at it and see if it'* operating.

Finally, does the temperature display blink at you for the first 2 minutes after starting the car? If so, there is an error code (1 or more) stored that it wants to tell you about.

The wiring changes scare me.

OK, test the leads at the fan motor with the fan speed selector on the highest setting and tell us what you get.

According to the mechanic, it was working after he cleaned it. Then it just up and quit on him, and he'* saying that it'* been wanting to go for some time. Someone did a bypass wiring job to a 30 amp fuse to keep it running. The wirin has been messed with, I noticed that before I even took it in. It has a cd player stereo from a 2001 Camaro, and I'm not sure if it was done professionally. In fact, I doubt it. How do I test the leads, fuddyduddy? I don't have an ohm/amp tester/volt meter, if that'* what you mean. I'm kinda flying blind hoping that my sonar skills stay up to speed.

Oh, and I've been reading this forum for several days and have pretty much tried most of the things mentioned. I've tried the diagnostic test even though it wasn't flashing and it read "00". I hate electrical problems.

Oh, bologna. I'm starting to doubt that it ever worked after he put it back together. On the other hand, _maybe_ he just forgot something obvious like a ground connection, or the harness connector to the blower resistor pack (which is presumably what he removed to get access to the evaporator core for cleaning).

Sez him? _Where_?

Totally agree with you there, but what does the stereo have do with the air conditioning...

Wait a minute...

Oh, sh*t...

I think I know what may have something to do with the problem here: You have a 1993, right? The factory stereo, which you do not have anymore, provides display voltage for the climate control system'* fluorescent display. If somebody swapped in another stereo, they would discover that their climate control doesn't light up anymore. I suspect they then hijacked some other circuit instead, and hooked it up to the climate control box. Possibly Bad Things happened after that.

Is there any way that you can beg, borrow or steal a 1992 or 1993 factory stereo? I think you are going to need to un-do the wiring screwup that the previous owner did and see if you can get it back to normal, by (at least temporarily) reinstalling the factory head unit. It may also need to be the upgraded electronically-controlled tape deck or CD player, not the base model with the mechanical pushbutton player controls.

Right now we need to hear from anyone who has successfully re-done the wiring after removing the factory stereo from a '92 or '93 Bonneville SSE or SSEi, so that the climate control would have the right power supply. I think that'* your problem. Sorry...
