Problem after intake replacement.
I just got it all back together. I put in a new upper intake and I also changed the lower gaskets. New pcv valve, and cleaned the throttle body. The car now has a slightly different exhaust note, and an off idle hesitation. Backfires under load...Vacuum leak???
Does the big vacuum fitting on the back of the intake need an o-ring? The dealer gave me one and I am not sure where it goes.
The new intake (NAPA) came with two extra pieces. One was the big vacuum fitting, and I am not sure what the other thing is. It kind of resembles the pcv valve housing "lid" with a hole all the way through and a cage looking thing on top...
I don't think I torqued the lower manifold bolts enough...About 10 in/lbs too light...Could this be a cause?
It went back together too easily with no extra bolts...I should have known it wouldn't be right...lol
Thanks for any info...

10 in.-lbs? Should be tigher than that, right?
The vac fitting probably should have an o-ring, although I'm not familiar with the Series II NA in some respects.
Can you get a pic of the other part?

Here are some pics of the part...

There is a hole that goes all the way through where the bolt head is.
I have taken off the upper intake again and re-torqued the lower intake bolts.
Also..Is the PCV housing supposed to have a spring? My Hayne'* manual says it should but mine does not. Took some force to reclose it.
The vacuum port on the back does have an o-ring. I have not put it back together as of yet...

As I was putting it back together, I discovered two things...1. A vacuum hose that was deteriorated that links the tranny vacuum line to something and 2. i had not re-tightened the bracket that runs from the alternator to the coilpack. The one on the coilpack also has a ground wire attached. Nothing else seemed out of place. I re-torqued everything, and now it seems to run fine
Thanks!!!
Thanks!!!

No spring, but it took force to close it? Hmm, is the spring possible below it? Take it back out and see if there is a spring hiding under it. The spring should be on top of it.
I don't know what that extra piece is, but it looks like some sort of clip.

Hi Coop glad you found the problem.
On my 96 PCV there is no spring, the cap has 3 fingers that holds the metal valve down. The PCV valve is in so tight do not think it would pop up anyway. Checked the 96 GM service manual and it does not show a spring, for what it is worth.

Yes, my PCV lid has the three feet. It basically went on hard till the PCV o-ring "seated".
Went on a 40 mile trip, and everything seems fine. The antifreeze didn't budge...
And no more "hot" smell when I park it!
