94 L27 Fuel Pressure?

Ok i tested my Fuel Pressure today thinking thats maybe whats been cousing my sputtering problem iv had for a long time and how its getting a little worse now.

When Idel its arouns 35ish, Reve it it to like 2K and hold it spikes at like 39 and while at 2K it drops to around 32ish. Never got over 40.

So Bad, Good, or Ok may be cousing my problem :? :?:

That's very low. I suspect you're having starting problems unless you let it prime for 2 seconds, then start before it can bleed down?

yeah always let it run for a few seconds, befor i start it/

But yeah at low RPMs like when you tak off VARY slow its like shakes like it wants to stall but doesn;t but after i give it just a little more gas its fine..

Im going to replace the Filter, chack it again, and if its still low, then its Fuel pump/ tank time :(

mrbell83 09-09-2006 09:50 AM

i am assuming that you are getting this info from a scanner? Can autozone or someone run a scanner and tell me that? I would like to know what mine is........

willwren 09-09-2006 09:58 AM

Fuel pressure gauge attached to the pressure fitting on the fuel rail, mrbell.

Oh, ok so I just have to go and but a gauge and undo that cap? Are there any specif instructions? Mine just acts finny at idle sometimes and I would like to know of its a vaccum leak or maybe low fuel pressure.

Thanks Bill

He turns the key on, without starting the car, to let the fuel pump run and pressurize the system for a few seconds. Then, he starts the car.

ELMACHOGERACHO 09-09-2006 10:28 AM

i kno, i was just givin him shit

When you get the Gauge it will having instructions in it,
But this is how it goes, Screw gauge onto the fuel rail, turn the Key to on, Bleed out the air, check for leaks(Gauge), Start car, Bleed more air out, then watch the gauge, see what it reads. Reve it up and hold it a few times...

If you want a pics of the Gauge let me know ill post some. :)

Cheetah 09-09-2006 12:44 PM

Post the pics Bandit! :D

bandit 09-09-2006 01:03 PM

well im at work now. ill post some later. :)

BillBoost37 09-09-2006 02:58 PM

Why are we mentioning the incorrect way to test fuel pressure?

FSM says put gauge on, turn key on and off, bleed air... then turn key on and off a few times to reach maximum pressure. Watch gauge for 10 min to see if any bleed down occurs.

Says nothing about starting car. If you have issues at higher rpm..then I suggest lengthening the hose and watching FP while driving.

bandit 09-09-2006 03:03 PM

doesn't it show the fuel presure while its running? i mean i dont see how there would a big diffrence when reving in the drivway and reving while driving. its fuel doen't it stay around the same at all speeds, just changes a little depending on the throttle %?

bandit 09-09-2006 03:28 PM

Wilwren- You know now that i think about it, i do rember a few times like 2 months ago when i didn;t wait 2 sec to start it and it did take a longer time to start....

Boosty- Yeah i also did it that why , it only got up to 40...

BillBoost37 09-09-2006 07:14 PM

And at 40.. it's within an acceptable range. If you suspect further problems.. drive and watch FP.

VigCS 09-09-2006 09:09 PM

Wow thats nuts. My mustang idles at 32 and spikes to 39 while revving...thats with a new fuel pump.

Hehe, the differences are funny :)

bandit 09-10-2006 03:32 PM

Ok i tested my fuel presure while driving, Just crusing at speed at like 60 mph its about 38..

When i had it floored up to 70PMH it stay at 42-44psi the whole time.

One time when i was stoping from 60pmh to a stop at around 45mph its starte to drop way low to 35 then to 30 then to about 22psi, but as soon as i got on the gas again it went right back up to around 38-40ish.
