HELP!! Stumbling, stuttering, rattleing... this isnt a ford!
could somone please tell me whats wrong with this thing! its a 1994 ssei i bought it yesterday (ebay) it starts and idles perfectly, slight rattle from the SC area but not bad and not even noticible with the hood closed... at idle. driving it around town at 20-30 is fine but if you gas it you hear this loud crunching rattle from under the hood and it acts like its trying to really go but somting is holding it back. the engine FEELS like its missing but i cant hear a miss over the noise and the RPM needle seems pretty smooth! same thing on hills, clatter and rattle and almost like it is getting power and then losing it all in the same second. I tried to figure out the supercharger nose cone thing and this is what i have... absolutly tight if i grab the pully (belt off) and try to lift it up and down or side to side but if i rotate it it turns like a 1/4 of an inch before it makes contact and then i get a little resistance same way in both directions. so if i hold the pulley and turn it back and fourth its like 1/4 inch with NO resistance and then "thunk it grabs inside and i have resistance and it does this both ways. My boost gauge seems to work fine negative on idle and all the way through the driving range it hits zero at cruise and goes to positive when i floor it. Tonight i am getting plugs and wires, pcv and fuel filter. there is a small leak on the fuel return line under the passengers side that i am also going to look at. any advice would be awesome. I am Grant and im new to the forum as well as Pontiac experience

Sounds like a coupler from the way you described the movement. When you turn the pulley it should hook up with the rotors immediatly. I am unsure as to weather a coupler can cause what you described under acceleration...does the car still have decent acceleration but makes an awful sound? Or does the car feel really lame?

to answer the orginal posters question...yes plan on doing a SC rebuild on this one...A lot of issues may be resolved after rebuilding that thing. at least the coupler portion.

Thanks for all the help and yes that is the car on e-bay :)
I forgot to mention i had no ses light during all of this either.... till the drive home last night when it did come on and stay on... which connectors do i short to get the codes on theese things anyone know? Ok i did the wires and plugs... they had new champion plugs in the front 3 cylinders and what appears to be the original ac delcos that came in the car in the back 3 lol the wires were really soft and you could almost pinch the rubber off the wires with your fingers. i also pulled the egr, maf etc and cleaned everything and dumped a can of sea foam in the fuel tank. I noticed the vacuum lines were in VERY sorry shape so i replaced all of those as well. I was going to change the pcv but damned if i can find the stupid thing! lol you will all have to forgive me i am a corvette and chrysler man. Anyways, i also had a little issue with the wipers they would go on high but nothing else so i pulled that apart and found a little plastic paul had fallen off so i tackled that (i was honestly looking for other crap to do on it before i took it for its test drive because i was afraid it would still be running poorly!) ok cut ot the chase... I put it all back together and it runs 99 percent better, i still have the grinding sound that i am pretty sure is comming from the super charger nose cone when i stomp on it. but now when i stomp on it... it goes and i mean it REALLY goes! man i love this thing... why have i had corvettes all theese years when i could have had an ssei? lol pretty close to stock corvette performance with a trunk and 4 doors! i got back (much happier) and decided to look at the sc oil level... its full but its not right, they have what looks, feels, smells and tastes.... (yes i DID taste it so what!) like 30 weight synthetic motor oil. now my question to you super charger gurus how do i get this crap out and fill it up with the proper stuff (which i have 2 bottles of) and is it even worth bothering with? should i just get the parts for the nose cone? the coupler and the gaskets is that all i will need? thanks you guys rock!

Glad to hear the tune up solved a lot of the issues.
The PCV is under a little black cover that is held down by two 10mm bolts. This is housed in the supercharger by the throttle body and actually says PCV on it when you wipe off the excess dirt or dust.
The supercharger sounds like a standard coupler issue. The coupler is not too bad to swap out.
Actual procedure in techinfo section.
Pick up the TB gasket, SC gasket and ensure you have the two small yellow o-rings with the SC gasket. Pull SC off, clean TB super well. (do not clean the SC rotors, trust me..) Pull the nose off, change the little round piece of plastic and reassemble.

I've changed my supercharger oil before and would drain the oil before opening the case and spilling the smelliest stuff in the world all over the place.
The way I choose to do it is to get an old pump sprayer from any spray bottle. Put the tube into the fill hole for the SC and pump the oil out into the sprayer bottle. Put sprayer back on bottle and dispose.
