94 Bonneville, Handful of questions
 
Hello everyone,

I just purchased a 1994 Bonneville in need of some work and completed some of it today, but still have a ways to go. There are a number of issues I need some advice on.

Neither rear window will go down from either the drivers switches or the rear switches. I know the switches are good because I was rigging the drivers switches today so that I could at least put the driver's window and passenger's window up and down. There are 3 bad switches (in one direction or both), so I used a total of 3 switches for 2 windows. Anyway, I had my multimeter out and know there was 12 V going to the back windows, but neither of them even made a noise. This would signify bad motors, correct? If it were the regulators then you would hear the motor running from my understanding.

Next is the whole electrical controls of the steering column. None of the radio controls on the steering wheel work, although they are lit so I do not think it could be a fuse problem. Some of the buttons are damaged and need replacing (but still lit) so I am looking for a replacement set if anyone has one. However, I would like to get them functional first. Is it a bad connection to the radio? What else could it be? I also cannot turn on my brights, so I am wondering if there is some bad wiring going all the way up the column. How much would it cost to replace the whole column?

I also have the SES light on. The guy I bought it off of said this was only because of the oxygen sensors. Does this sound accurate? It only has right around 100k on it. It does stall occasionally, but he said the fuel filter is very clogged and this is the cause of the stalling and is not related to the light. I'm having the shop replace the filter on Monday so I can make sure it is done right and see if it still stalls.

Would a bad fuel filter have any relation to low oil pressure? I noticed that when I'm not on the gas the oil pressure gauge is very close (just barely above) the red zone, and I'm curious if this is what actually is causing the stalling. Would this have any relation to a fuel filter? I did check the oil level and even added some, so the oil is at the appropriate level.

I appreciate all the help. Good thing I only paid $825 for it. :)

Likely right, bad motors, they go slower & slower... sometimes they will work initally when pressing the button especially going down then they will go up an inch, you wait a few minutes put them up another inch ect..... (when they are up I then disconnect the switch!)

Power windows are a gremlin, they always break, now I know why my father would never want them in his cars, & I feel the same way... give me manual crank roll ups anyday!!!! :)

I wouldn't think the fuel filter would be related to oil pressure at all, unless this is affecting the RPM's if stalling.. again the oil pressure sender is electronic, & electrical sensors annoyingly go out. I get a low coolant trip at times, yet I just ignore it now (occasionally check the level but always OK).

I Have a similar problem with my Camaro, but it doesn't stall, only hard starting at times right now, I was thinking filter too.... simply amazing where they put these things too.

$825, body good & the air work? They seem to be going for a lot less in my area. :confused: perhaps it's the bad economy.

I've had a 92 Camry with all manual locks and windows, and after 4 years of leaning over to roll down the passenger window, I can more than handle replacing a few switches and motors. :)

I'll probably just have the shop check out the oil line just to make sure. I need to invest in a hydraulic jack so I can get it on some of the underbody work.

There was one dent on the rear of the trunk that I easily popped out with some wood and a sledge hammer, and the AC is mediocre but could use a recharge. Around here $825 seems to be a very good deal on it. It only has just over 100k plus I'm sellng my Camry for $600.
