Default 94 AM radio bad since birth

Bought a 94 SSE three years, and the AM radio never has had reception comparable to my other vehicles. FM is good.

1. Do we know if the power antenna is used for FM or is it only used for AM and FM has a small internal antenna???

2. Anybody had and solved an AM problem in that vintage Bonnie???

Haven't ripped into it yet but might get some time on my hands soon...

Well, in the 93, the antenna also receives AM signals. A broken center conductor in the antenna wire results in no AM and weak FM. Does your FM skip over many stations when using the seek function?

No. All FM stations are strong, or at least as strong as can be found with any other radio in the same place.

But the 94'* AM is noticeably weaker than other AM radios,(and skips stations that the the 97 Bonne catches, for example)

I thought it might be the antenna, if I knew for sure that the FM doesn't use it. But if the FM uses it, too, then it seems unlikely , 'cause the FM is strong.

(Guess this topic should be moved to the Electronics forum... sorry for starting it here...)
