I am new to the forum and am looking for some help. I have a 97 Pontiac Bonneville and am working on an engine swap. I have all the wiring removed, the motor mount on the passager side, the exhaust unbolted on the backside of the engine, the starter removed, all 6 of the engine to transmission bolts, and the 3 TQ bolts removed. I can not see anything else holding the engine and the engine is loose but I can not get it to split from the transmission. Is there something I am missing? I was rereading the instructions and see there is a bracket bolting the engine and transmission together, I do not remember removing this bracket, where is it located?

I think there is 7 bolts. 6 hold the trans to the engine and one holds the engine to the trans. I looked at the transmission I have sitting on my bench and there is a threaded hole just above the axle near the shifter. I would have to pull out the FSM to be sure.

I got that one, it is the one you need the long extension for. I have the new engine that is going in on the floor and it only has holes for 6 bolts, 5 that thread into the engine from the trans and one that threads into the trans from the engine side.

Are there alignment pins that need to be separated.

Yes, there are two but I can not get the transmission to split away from the engine.

There'* only a couple things I notice you didn't mention. First is the AC compressor. Easiest thing to do with that is unbolt it from the bracket and let it sit on the frame. The other thing is the transmission to engine mount. On the passenger end of the transmission is a black bracket. Two 13mm go to the engine and 2 into the transmission. Odd though is you mention the long extension for the reverse bolt from engine to trans. Usually that would need to be removed for that to happen.

The only other thing that can hold you up is trans to engine bolts or a engine/trans with pressure on it that needs to split. The trans holds itself and requires no jacking or messing arond with and the engine to trans has 5 bolts in total. One backwards, and four forwards at 7, 10, 11, and 1. The hole at 2 o'clock is not threaded. It is only there for the pin.

Ok, thanks Billboost, I have the A/C compressor off but I do not remember pulling the bracket. I really appreciate the help and I will let you all know how it goes!
