Default Flashing Temp Light on 93SSEi Air Conditioning Panel

Hi, another problem (?) just popped up.
I had the battery disconnected while cleaning the MAS this weekend past.
Now, upon startup the temperature setting and exterior temperature readings "flash" (blink on and off) when the car is started. Of course, the battery being disconnected could be totally unrelated, but I thought I would provide the info as 'you never know.' The air conditioner seems to work fine - cold air and all that. However the flashing continues for a minute or so then goes back to "on solid". I am betting that the flashing "means something" or is an indicator of something.
As I was getting my belts changed today anyway I asked my shop to check the air conditioning pressures and, if needed, add freon. It needed 1.5 pounds which surprises me, but it is now all full, but the light is still flashing.
Ideas?
Thanks,

Hi, Thank you very much! I printed out the directions and will take a look at the codes tonight. The shop said he didn't see any leaks, but adding 1.5 pounds of freon seems like a good indicator that I will get a 48 or 148 "long term freon loss" code....... I really appreciate your help. In the future I should look first at the published "techinfo" articles. Thanks again.

Thanks again! Finding this forum has been extremely helpful to me, I greatly appreciate the insights others have. Perhaps I can help someone someday, too. Guess what - my shop just called and they found a leaking rack and pinion. Small leak, but will progressively get worse. Their estimate including AC parts and alignment to replace the rack is around $800. Ouch. Had to share my pain with someone!

I found out mine had a badly leaking rack the same day I figured out that the upper intake manifold was going bad. Didn't make for a fun day, thats for sure.

WEll - got a code 40. A code 40 is: Driver Air Mix Motor circuit open or sho9rted, or not calibrated. I went further into the diagnostic and came up with the unit is 96% commanded air mix valve position full cold (which is what it should be). However, the actual air mix valve position was at 88 whereas the book says it should be at 75% for full cold. Now I don't know what an 88 reading means, but it appears that the unit needs to be adjusted. Now why would it all of a sudden get out of adjustment? How does one adjust the Air Mix Valve? According to chart Q on page 1C-32 (I ran this diagnostic procedure) the air mix valve is not shorted or open, but needs adjustment. Page 1C-46 gives the procedure, but it is very abbreviated and is like "greek" to me as the drawing is minimal. If anyone has done this or has any good help to offer, I would appreciate it! All of a sudden my Bonnie is falling apart!!! Not really, but some pesky problems are surfacing for some reason (leak, Air Conditioner.....).

Well, I ran the diagnostic again and got a "00" which means the HVAC programmer needs to be replaced.
HOw does one do this? It appears to me that it entails removing the dash! Now, I have passenger side SIR, so this is bothersome to me. Where are the directions to remove the dash on the passengers' side? If anyone has help for me on this, please provide. I just cannot take this to the dealer and pay the big bucks they charge. Another question: Does it hurt anything to just run it the way it is? Cold air is coming out just fine after the first two minutes. Thanks!

I pulled a code 40 too and I also know what you mean when the instructions are like Greek. I went into the 02* C mode which is ECC override and somehow managed to prevent the display from blinking. Are you using the factory service manual for this?

When you run the diagnostic test, a code of 00 means "No codes stored".
