Default losing engine oil on a 900 mile road trip

I changed my oil before I drove my 92 sse from ATL to New Jersey. Oil was at level.
Once I got up there my oil level was about a quart off and much browner than it was before I left
I'm sure driving for 13 hrs would burn oil pretty fast just wanted to check with THE PROFESSIONALS as if this was a sign of something else.

I put a quart of oil in her and drove another 864 miles back to atlanta. The oil level was about 1 1/2 inches above the line. hope this doesn't kill her.

I forgot to mention that I put some diesel gas in the engine before I did the first oil change.
I heard that helps clean the engine.

at 180,000 miles any thing I should check for after about 2,300 miles in 5 days.

Don't overfill the oil, if it gets high enough that the crank dips in, it will whip the oil into a foam. You'll have large amounts of air in the oil and could lose pressure.

Diesel in the fuel, never heard of this.

Diesel in the oil, heard of that, along with ATF in the oil.

Ask the most experienced tech you know about the diesel gas.
not that I know everything but I did a lot of research on the topic
and the results were that as an additive just prior to an oil change
its harmless

I don't think that is right to burn that much oil in 900 mile trip. I drove the my bonneville 1800 miles to texas and oil dipstick almost didn't change. It is netural to lose I little oil but not that much. I would check the car see any sign were it lose oil and also check the color of the coolant

If you are loosing that much oil, I'd do a compression test on the engine to see if you have a dead cylinder or low compression. (i.e.worn out piston rings/piston bores)

And don't overlook the obvious..look for an oil leak under the car. (put a piece of cardboard under the car when you park it, and check it for anything that dripped off the motor.)

Ditto on what the others said, do not over-fill the oil, it can cause some damage. Worst I've seen was a 2.8L V6 that someone stuffed six quarts into. Ruined all the rod bearings.

Hang in everyone.

Let'* reread what he wrote

Drove 900 miles..was low on oil, added, drove 900 miles home, found engine to be overfull. This would lead me to think the oil was held back somewhere when you tested it and found it low a quart.

I've seen head work done and something done wrong that caused the oil to get stuck in the head and not be in the pan.

Has anything been done to your car or was this during the diesel fuel treatment?

I had to have my ignition coils and module replaced.
I've never seen the compression test done but i
think I got the jist of how it works.

I'd just monitor that for a while. I tend to think you short-sticked the oil the first time, or didn't allow enough time for oil upstairs to drain back to the pan.

You could pull one of the front plugs to see if it'* dark if you like, but I'd bet it will be OK.

I wouldn't add diesel fuel or ATF to anything that wasn't a diesel engine or an automatic transmission.
