93 possible trans problem?

So when i start the car s hift from park to drive or reverse ,sometimes, the engine will rev but the car wont move maybey 1 mph, what can that be caused by. Also when im driving it seems to shift a little slow in first and second or takes more effort or maybey im just paranoid. have not had trans flush nd need a tune up not sure if either are related, going to check trans fluid lvls 2morrow.

Clutches are slipping, badly.
Bout the only thing you CAN do is take it to the transmission shop, unless you can do this type of thing yourself.
I imagine the trans fluid is burnt black by now.
If it is still red or even somewhat red, there maybe some other problem.
What I don't know, but when I was at AAMCO, that same sympton meant time for a new transmission. A fluid flush will not fix it at this point.

I know that is not what you want to hear, but it is the case.

figures i fking hate cars, so is it safe to drive?>

mnalep 12-23-2005 11:51 PM

ok so i did some searching here.
everyone had same descriptive problems i had and have given various possible solutions

1. Trans mounts

2. torque converter

3. 1 solenoid

4. valve body

How can i test each of these, or know if a certain one is the cause, or to elimiate any as the cause. or give a brief descption of what each part does

And someone mentioned a scantool, what can i use this for my "service engine" light randomly comes on and off i got 3 codes two of which the tech said do not apply to pontiacs and mine was a O2 sensor. (32/42/12 i beleive)

Also its not good that cars sit for long time, the car has sat for 6 months before i bought it thought id add

Check your codes using the procedure in Techinfo. All you need is a paper clip.

I believe you'll find at least one trans code.

Your problem isn't a trans mount. You have multiple problems with your trans. My best educated guess (based on mucho experienco here and with 2 of these cars myself) is:

1. Your second gear clutches burnt up (typical in high miles).
2. The friction material from your clutches has contaminated your fluid.
3. The contaminated fluid is making your torque converter slip.

This is why you can't get started when you give it the go, and why it has difficult shifting. You MIGHT buy time with a professional flush, particularly in colder weather, but certainly no more than a month or two considering the severity of your symptoms.

You are looking at a minimum $1500 rebuild in the next 30-90 days minimum even if you do a full professional flush. This is my OPINION based on your symptoms.

12 is not a code. It's a handshake signal to show you are in communication with the PCM. This tells me the 'tech' didn't use a scantool. He used the procedure in Techinfo to extract your codes.

could i have a link to that techinfo, also does a 92 sse have the same trans as a 93 se?

And no, they're not the same trans, although a trans shop can convert it for you. You simply need a trans out of the same year with the same gear ratio to avoid problems.

Further note......let's get this diagnosed properly and see where it goes before you go start shopping for a trans.

Inspection of your trans fluid after the car has warmed up for starters.
