Default LIM Gasket Parts # Conflict

I've been doing my research on other threads on this site in regards to the LIM gasket issues.

I have a 1996 Bonneville SE normally-aspirated.
The VIN is a "K" number.

This post: http://www.bonnevilleclub.com/forum/...e=article&k=38 references three part numbers for the LIM gaskets.

gmpartsdepartment.com tells me according to my VIN I should use 89017817 which are plastic and have no locating pins for the gaskets or end seals.

The above post recommends 89017816 which are the aluminum ones with locating pins.

Should I use what GM tells me or go with the aluminum which I would think are stronger/better?

From what I have gathered here and from referrals, the aluminum ones are what you want.

Ignore the parts people, get the part # mentioned for the aluminum framed, it may have been superceded now. I think I recall something like that.

Note that you won't have a use for the locating pins. See the article in Techinfo > Mechanical > Engine >95-03 Upeer Intake Failure information

Whether you have the pin holes for locating or not.. you are all set with the aluminum.
