93 bonneville won't start

i have a 93 bonneville and we had the stalling problem and now it doesn't want to start. changed the crank sensor, cam sensor, coils ignition module, esc module, iat sensor, eecs canister and spark plug wires. had it tested and the codes said it was the ignition module and one of the coils was cracked. but we changed them and the car still does not start. any suggestions?

Is the icm grounded? I know on mine there is a small black wire that grounds it out by having one of the bolts that mount it go through the connector at the end of the black wire.

i'm not sure. i will check that in the morning. i know we have not done anything to interfer with the wiring but it might be possible that we pulled on the wire and pulled it loose

Does it crank, or just click?

Have you checked and cleaned all your battery and alternator connections yet? Both ends of the BOTH positive cables (including at the starter) and all the negatives at thier ground locations? 12 cars a year here have that problem with your symptoms.

Have you tried your other key yet, or cleaned your only key (if it is the only key) and the contacts inside the switch for VATS? Another 12 cars a year ;)

start

good point, the VATS key will cause it not to start.
Also a loose or dirty pin connector at the module will cause this.
Most mechanics first check for spark and fuel at the rail.
These are the two main reasons for a no start. Then you check for injector pulse.
Could you check these (if the change in keys doesn't work) and let us know what you find?

i checked both keys and the car does the same thing. the engine turns but won't fire. i checked the icm for a ground but all i could see is the many wires that come out of the connection and they are all wrapped as they go back toward the firewall. all the positive and negitive ground connections are cleaned. now the service engine light stays on and the check gages light.

Check for spark with a spare plug at all 6 wires.

we have got the car running. we had to buy brand new coils and igition module. we have 2 bonnevilles and we tried to change the parts with each other. now that we got it started there is a click in the area of the alternator and water pump. the service engine light is still on. would the water pump click if it is going out. would it throw water up toward the alternator and around the first injector. we noticed antifreeze around that area. could it short out the coils and igition module if it gets in there?

just wanted to let everyone know that we solved the service engine light on problem. it was the mass air flow sensor. we took the car to autozone and had them run a test on the car since the service light was on. they told us it was the air flow sensor. now the light is off. the clicking sound they said could be the water pump may be going out. thanks for all your help.

Susan, you can check for your codes yourself with nothing more than a paperclip.

I'd be very sure the clicking noise is actually the water pump before proceeding any further. Glad you got it running.
