Default 92 Bonny stalling while driving??

My 92 bonneville stalled while I came to a stop. It started up right away but stalled again 100 yds down the road. It would not start up that time till 15 minutes later. I got it all the way home and when I had to pick up my son from school I started it and let it run to make sure that it wouldnt stall, but when I got to the school it stalled when I slowed down, and will not start again. I check for any trouble codes and got 58. Can anyone tell me what the problem could be? I am limited on money and I really need this car. It is very dependable.

Thank you
Angela

Hmm, 58 is a code that shows up (pass key) most times you scan a 92, and can usually be ignored. But, that does sound like a Pass key problem. Key dirty? Lock cylinder dirty?

my dad has a 96 Caprice and his passkey code sensor died, and he had to have it replaced because he was at a gas station in PA (not at home in NY) and his car wouldn't start back up, and it was because of that passkey thing. his car only had 96,000 miles on it at the time to. and when he looked at the only one it was a small wire that broke. so it might be the same thing, and the wire might be on its way out.

No I dont see the security light come on at all... I was thinking it could be the crankshaft position center, the fuel pump, or tranny temp sensor...but I dont have the resources to try all the possibilities.

how full is the tank when it stalls. 92 had problems with tank baffles. My 92 SSE will stall stopping going down a hill with less than 1/4 tank.
On the fuel pump end, my 97 SSEi would stall going down the highway and idling. It would always start right back up until one day and it didn't. It was the fuel pump.

First of all, VATS can't make the car STALL under any circumstances. It can only prevent a start. Code 58 is a known bug in the PCM. Ignore it.

Secondly, the 92 trans doesn't report temperature back to the PCM in the same manner as later years (92/93 don't, 94 and newer do), however, there may still be a fault line in it.

I'm more interested in the condition (color and smell, and level too) of your trans fluid.

I thought the VATS could shut the car off after a certain time?...and then not start back up for 15 minutes or so.
