Yesterday driving home on the expressway I lost bunch of coolant and obviously overheated. My dash rarely works anymore, so my ScanGage saved my a$$ here. It looks like a failed heater core hose inlet/outlet behind the alternator.
Anyway, my question is one of severity: I was at 250F for no more than 10-15mins, so what should I expect in terms of what-needs-to-be-replaced/repaired?
what should I be on the lookout for in the future assuming it'* an easy fix?

1996 bonneville, supercharged, ~160K miles
recent relevant maintenance: oil change 2 weeks ago, LIM/UIM gaskets one year ago, radiator 2 years ago, new upper hose few months ago. I've also been searching for a small coolant leak, but I'll scratch that one off the list now.

That is a long time to be that hot, but you will simply have to get it running and see what presents itself. I have heard that it could be enough to finish off manifold gaskets, but given they are only a year old, I would think they would be okay.

If everything checks out, and nothing rears its ugly head, I would change the oil and call it good.

Paul..I did a similar thing with a series I SC motor. No trouble with it at all. Simply fixed the issue and was up and running great soon after.

Give it a try..these engines take a lot of abuse.

UPDATE: Water pump was leaking badly. I'll have it fixed and see what happens. thanks for the advice.

Change the thermostat also.
