92 SSEI Stalling and NO power! HELP!!
Hello all, i'm new here! I really need some help, cause I have no idea what is wrong. I haven't checked the codes yet, but hopefully I can figure it out tomorrow. It starts fine and will idle no problem, but when I give it gas it starts bogging out. I can slowly give it gas and the rpm's will go up, but when I kick it to the floor it just bogs out and sometimes just dies. It has been sitting for about a year now, but I started it every once and a while. Help please............thanks

Wish I could help, but the only thing I can think would be some sort of vacume leak, or something with fuel delivery (bad gas or filter maybe?)
Let's try some other things, though, til the guru's wake up. Does it idle smoothly at just under 1K? Have you tried it under load, i.e. driving it? They do have rev limiters when you're in Park. Anyways, welcome to the club. A technician will be with you shortly |
that defintly sounds like a bad maf sensor. check for codes and let me know what they are and ill get the info for you.

I easy way to test your MAF sensor is to get a screwdriver, or something similar and tap on the MAF sensor, if it stumbles or stalls then it needs replacing, best of luck.

This is how they test them at the shop, and if you check out many manuals you will find the same advice, your not supposed to smash on it, just a gental tap will tell you wether it is good or not, it has usually two to three fillements in it, kinda like a light bulb, when they come loose a light tap will alert you to wether they are connected or shorted. and don't worry you will not hurt your MAF sensor, it takes more vibration from the engine most of the time. anyhow check with your mec. or a service manual and you will find the same advice i gave you, good luck and hope you get to the bottom of it.

hmm...

ok , that was a GM test for the older 2.8 motors untill they switched them to a speed density EPROM and eliminated the MAF function but still had to have it connected due to the fact that they incorp. the IAT sensor into the MAF sensor.
another thing that may cause this condition is a cat. convertor plugging up. it will idle fine but no power . especially on a load or hills. |
Is the "service engine soon" light on?
|
WOW GUYS!! Thanks for all your replies! I don't know why I was thinking I had to check for codes cause the "service engine soon" light ISN'T on  I such a newb to the bonneville world  Anyway, so it probably wouldn't be any sensors then right? So i'm guessing the only other thing would be fuel filter because of where it sat for a while. Where is the fuel filter located on these beasts? The only thing I don't understand is, a new tank was put on not that long ago by the guy I bought it from. Wouldn't you normally change the filter when you did the tank? or not necessarily? Thanks again!
