I'm trying to locate the source of the intermittent coolant leak on my 94 SE(non-supercharged). I thought it was water pump but now I'm not sure. I removed alternator so I could get a good look at the top of the water pump. There is a hose with 2 "L" bends in it that goes from the forward side of the top of the water pump back toward the windshield and then makes a turn toward the driver'* side where it clamps onto a fitting which is screwed into the top of the engine. The fitting screws in from the passenger side and looks like there is some sort of thread sealant on it.

The hose has never been replaced. I tightened the clamps to see if that makes a difference, overfilled the coolant reservoir to get the water level above the fitting and I'll inspect tomorrow. I may go ahead and replace this hose ( I guess I can get it from dealer - would anyone know the part number?). I also thought that since I'll have to drain the coolant, I might remove the fitting, clean the threads and reinstall with proper sealant. Does any one know what the sealant would be. Maybe there is no sealant and all I'm looking at is engine grease but it looks like sealant. Any advice or info would be greatly appreciated. I hate to assume it'* the water pump and go to the trouble of replacing that if that'* not it. I'm getting no noise. I'm not seeing any coolant in exhaust (white smoke) or water in oil so I don't think it'* head gasket.

There'* a hose in there? My god... I need to look at the engine blow up a little closer... I've had a coolant leak from above the WP since day one.... Thanks for mentioning that man!

would that be the heater core hose? if so you can get it at the local parts store.

I got a replacement for that hose at Autozone. It'* about $5.

Where the hose enters the lower intake, there is a threaded fitting. That fitting will either be metal or hard plastic. I have a 93 SE and mine was plastic. If it is plastic, it may have degraded and that may be the source of your leak. Be very careful here... if you even touch the plastic fitting, it may fall apart (as mine did). It will sometimes break in half with part of it stuck inside the threaded aluminum hole in the lower intake:

The part # for the newer metal fitting is 88891743. My dealer charged $25 (!!) but other people have said they got it for $15. I don't think it needed any sealant... I could be wrong but I didn't use any and I have no leaks now.

That part cost me 200 bucks on my LeSabre. Broke on the way to work, had to have it towed to a shop...
