'92 SSEi air intake

Hi
A while ago I put the air box from a 1992 SSE on my 91 SSE. I was at the yard today and I noticed that the breather tube was very different on a 92 SSEi. I grabbed it anyway and I was wondering what the extra "pockets" are for in the tube? can I use it on my car? I have noticed a difference with the new air box versus the little one it had before, its a lot more peppy at lower speeds. I have the L27 3800 rebuilt.
thanks

Those "pockets" are actually areas in the tubing to act as baffles to reduce engine noise and the amount of supercharger whine you hear.

The peppiness could be a result of the increased airflow I believe the new box would have.

92 and 93 SSEi's have no baffles or resonators. Not sure what you're talking about here.

He said pockets. I thought the same as the 95 S1 I had... There was that one on the accordian.

92/93 don't have that. Trust me. I know 95 does, but not sure about 94.

Gentlemen thanks for the posts
These extra spaces are actually in the snorkel. the tube has two bulges one on the bottom and the other at the side..
nice rides indeed..always liked green in that gen..but it has to have tan leather to complete the package...the grey is nice...but i perfer the tan.
so should I try this snorkel on my car?

they are Helmholtz resonators. 94-95 L67's had them the reduce the whine

If he's talking about the INTAKE side of the snorkel that goes into the fender to pull fresh air into the filter, the 92/93 does have one THERE. It does NOT have them on the accordian tube like the 95.

This is why the 92/93 SC is easier to hear with a stock airbox than the 94/95, in addition to the higher operating RPM's.

willwren thats exactly what I'm talking about- the snorkel going to the bring in the fresh air. so what are the pockets for? it actually came off a 93 SSEI, not a 92, I made a mistake. will it do anything for me by using this snorker other that the one that is already there?
thanks

No performance difference, only sound. That canister attached to the snorkel was designed to cancel out SC noise.
