Default 92 lesabre climate control

My car is a 1992 Lesabre Limited with a Push Button Climate Control Unit. I searched Bonneville Club but nothing turned up since Pontiacs have the Electronic Climate Control, right now I wish I did too. :( I hate the idea of scrapping the car because it only has 70 thousand miles on it right now.

My problem is that the climate control does not work 100% of the time and turns on and off at random times. Normally when I start the car, the OFF button will illuminate and I can choose the setting I want the air to flow.

Now when I start the car, the lights behind the buttons would not illuminate signifying that the climate control unit is unresponsive but more times than not air will still blow out the vents. On some days, I can use the air conditioning or heating without a problem and the climate control will become unresponsive and the flow of air is stopped. When it starts again, air will stop blowing and the climate control will return to OFF.

I have checked the fuses, but if you think I have to check a specific one let me know. So far I have gone to an Auto Electrician and he has tried swapping the Climate control unit itself but the same issue remained. I'm waiting for another unit to be installed on Monday. Is there anything else I can do?

Its getting really annoying especially on foggy days when I need the Rear Window Defogger. I am not a fan of Cold mornings. Hot days.. I just skip driving the Lesabre.

If you need a better explanation, have clues, or recommend an auto electrician around Queens, NY, feel free to Message me on AIM.

Have your “Auto Electrician” check the blower motor resistor & associated wiring, located under the hood and in the fan box mounted to the firewall. This is a common problem with the manual control system! In addition, check the relays & wiring for the fan as shown below.

I just purchased a 1992 LeSabre with the exact same push button climate controls and symptoms as yours. If you recall exactly what the solution was, it would likely apply to my situation also. I would love to shortcut the troubleshooting process, as I'm making this car a gift to my daughter and would like to get it to her asap. Post here, and also cc me at george_greenwald at yahoo.com Thanks!

Have you found a solution to this problem? I have a problem similar and wondering if your solution will work for my problem. Thank you.

It looks like this thread by 92lesabre died in 2008, then GGGreenwald attempted to revive it in 2011, then you tried to revive it in 2023. FYI 92lesabre hasn't logged back in in over 15 years, and GGGReenwald in over 11 years. They likely won't get back to you with any answers. This is one reason why we prefer that threads over six months old don't get revived. Please refer to https://www.gmforum.com/introduction...-first-304557/ for more details. It looks like you have started a thread in the Buick forum and are already getting answers.

Moved this thread from Pontiac Bonneville > 1992-1999 to Buick.

Thread closed.
