Hi, NooBee here. I recently purchased a '94 Bonne NA (92,000+ miles and very well kept) and I've been lurking for a few weeks. Some great info and very nice cars here.

I was checking things under the hood on my '94 and noticed the serpentine has small cracks all along it on the ridged side so I was going to replace it. Having never done a serpentine before, I'm a bit dense about the procedure. I haven't worked on anything more modern than the '66 Wildcat I used to have too many years ago.

I found the following in another thread using search:

"You can change it (the serpentine) with the lug wrench. Just take the tension up on the tensioner, slip the old one off, and slip the new one on. 2 minutes flat."

Sounds almost too easy so I thought it'd be a nice "getting my feet wet again" project.

My slightly embarrassing question is, where is the tensioner, and how do I slack/tighten it with the lug wrench?

Looking at it, I'm thinking the tensioner is the pulley between the power steering and the alternator pulleys.

I haven't found the right Chilton'* for this one yet and I think it needs to be done ASAP since the cracking is pretty severe.

BTW, my wife drives a '98 NA we bought a little over a year ago but so far I've never had to work on it.

I think that was my post. Forget the lugwrench idea. That was a holdover from my 98Z71, and the Bonnie is different. It'* metric something or other. It'll be easier with breaker bar. You got the tensioner nailed. Just pull it down with the handle of your LARGE ratchet or breaker bar pointing to the front, and loosen the belt of the alternator, then release the tensioner. I just did this last week on a 93 SSE, and I have a metal plate in my right hand, and I'm OLD.

It'* done.

All it took was a 17mm socket, 1/2 to 3/8 inch adapter, 1/2 inch ratchet handle, the new belt, and about 37 seconds.

Stay away from the Bosch Platinums they don't do well in our cars.

Most people here seem to like the AC Delco iridium plugs.

Taylor 8 mm wires from Hector at www.AngryDuckTofuRacing.com. They come in different colors, are reasonably priced, and are VERY well made. The Silicone insulation will last a long time and give you great performance. I am using them in my '95 Supercharged SE, WillWren is using them in his '93 SSEi and I am sure there are many others. (I got mine elsewhere before I knew that ADTR offered them. I would suggest supporting ADTR because they are developing so much for our Bonnevilles. Hector is a member of this forum).
