Default Low boost problem

Hi everyone,

I replaced my boost solenoid last week because of the SES light showing that code. Now I don't have any codes showing up but the car still runs like crap and doesn't build boost. Maybe 1.5psi... it never reaches the first line past zero on the boost gauge. Plugs are new, air filter good, no vacuum leaks I can find, belt doesn't seem to be slipping, SC doesn't seem to be making any strange noises. Any ideas?

Thanks

Better define for us "runs like crap."

Alrighty, the car idles fine. Runs fairly good and light throttle cruising around town and on the highway. Where it has problems is acceleration. My Cutlass Supreme w/ a 3100 is faster than this. It is slow to gain revs when you have your foot to the floor. Nothing like I would expect. Granted I have yet to drive this car working the way it should but I would expect better performance than this. I think it'* because something is not letting the engine build boost past around 1.5psi. Feels like the computer is retarding the timing. Doesn't matter if I have it floored or half throttle under load the boost needle races from full vacuum to around 1.5ish and just sits there until i let off the throttle. How'* that?

PS the car is a 93

Maybe the boost bypass valve needs adjusting.

Let us know...

Would the Boost bypass needle really be it? I think my issue is somewhat similar.. but not the same.. I notice @ 3/4 throttle.. the boost would go up as normal.. but would dump by half.. then follwed quickly by a another dump to bout 0 or just above 0 PSI. I haven't changed my boost bypass valve yet as I want to know thats wat causing it and I haven't had the codes read to see if thats what causing it.

@ WOT the needle will stay in boost.. but jerks.. and I can feel surges ( possible KR?? But why? New plugs and wires and 94 octane fuel.. guess I may change the wires just for the hell out of it later on ) Would KR also cause the PCM to dump the boost? ( I think so.. but would like to confirm )

Update... Well I did the adjustment thing... didn't help. Last night I was going up the onramp to get on the highway and the SES light came on for about 2 sec and went off again. So today I checked the code. 57, misc boost problem. No kidding. Anybody ever had that code pop up? What did you do to fix your problem? All suggestions welcomed.

Did you start having more boost problems after you replaced the solenoid?

No, ever since I bought the car it didn't work right (3 weeks). The transmission was out when I bought it. After replacing it originally I had codes 43 & 56. Fixed both, knock sensor wire was broke and replaced boost solenoid. After that it ran alright... but not as well as I would expect. What psi is max boost stock on the 93? I actually sold the car this afternoon so I guess it'* the new owner'* problem now. I'm just curious what it could have been. I'm a stickler for details and get frustrated when a car doesn't work at 100%.
